‘The Dream of Dali’.

Style: Spontaneous Realism.
Original painting: Oil on canvas 24″ x 18″.

Dali’s surrealism style caught my attention the first time I saw his paintings at The MET in NYC. I learned about Salvador Dali in art history classes in College through books and videos, but I got astonished when I saw an original painting in front of me. The largest collection of Dalí’s works outside Europe is located in Saint Petersburg, Florida, a city that by coincidence I ended up living after living in Lima, Perú.

“Like many artists, I try to express myself through art. I find it much easier to deliver ideas, feelings and emotions painted on canvas; our joys and sorrows find a way to communicate in color for bringing a series of interpretations in the subjective world of art. I find art as a fundamental source to find ourselves, and if we are lucky, we can answer the deepest and most philosophical questions of our lives, even if those answers only make sense to us.

Introspection and connection with consciousness are essential in my work. I prefer a classic painting style with illustrative surrealist tendencies. When I receive painting commissions, I like to combine a modern touch and I’m very open to playing with new techniques and styles. Dreams paintings, portraits, and landscapes are my favorites, my signature is a thick brushstroke, people can perceive with textures the moment of the inspiration, I think this is a key in my artwork.”

Art at its fullest capacity makes us attentive. Art is important for human consciousness because makes us think; most of the time we confuse art with design and we rely on beauty art as the only type of expression (although we all want to experience beauty), but beauty is not the ultimate justification for art. If a colorful canvas, sculpture or any kind artwork in a gallery or museum moves you to attentiveness it is art if it doesn’t, it’s something else.

Appearing shortly on your television, if you’re as hooked on Game of Thrones as I am, will be the episode of Season 5 when we are fortunate to feast our eyes on Seville’s majestic Alcazar. The Mudejar gem takes on the role of the Water Gardens, the private residence of the House Martell. Filmed here last October, this episode will introduce one of the city’s most beloved monuments, recognized as UNESCO World Heritage, with its exquisite plasterwork, intricate ceramic tiles, gold ceilings, and fairytale colonnaded patios, to a whole new international audience – the series is watched in an estimated 170 countries.
